Outcome:
 Students will Know:

  •  Through research, investigation and discovery, recognize different types of puppets and puppetry styles from around the world
  • Materials that they can explore to build a puppet
  • Ways to experiment with how to manipulate a puppet (bring it to life)

Students will Do:

  • Experiment  with techniques that puppeteers use to manipulate different types of inanimate objects
  •  Improvise with a number of different types of puppets
  •  Create a puppet that is inspired by a particular style of puppetry from a particular country

Assessments:
Formative:
  • Sheets that will accompany each different style or genre of puppetry from this website

Summative:
  •  your final puppet created in response to a particular style of puppetry you learned about
  •  a final 'exam' to evaluate your learning throughout the unit


Learning Plan:
Beginning:
  • learn about different styles of puppetry from different continents and countries around the world
Middle:
  • begin to create a puppet inspired by a particular style and culture
End: 
  • complete a puppet inspired by a particular style and culture
  • take a final 'test' to assess how much you've learned throughout the unit
